“Niki de Saint Phalle passed away in 2002. She would turn 89-year-old on October 29 if she were alive,” I was thinking when I received good news from New York. The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) has decided that it will hold a Niki exhibition from April 5th through September 7th in 2020. This will be the third time an American institute holds Niki’s large-scale retrospective. MoMA reopened on October 21 following the major renovation. I feel as if it is going to celebrate the 90th anniversary of her birth.

Many years ago, my mother Yoko and I visited a Niki exhibition at a gallery in New York and then hurried to go see Niki in San Diego. I hear that New York is rich in museums and galleries; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the world’s largest museums, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the Whitney Museum of American Art (WMAA) and the Met Breuer which is situated at the former site of WMAA, only to name a few. I’m going to fly to New York next year and am already excited about not only visiting MoMA but also other museums and galleries.

Don’t miss your chance to see the Niki exhibition in New York!
